To provide a hexagonal-cell honeycomb catalyst body capable of effectively cleaning especially HC in the exhaust gas, and an exhaust emission control system using the same.
The hexagonal-cell honeycomb catalyst body 1 includes a hexagonal-cell honeycomb carrier 2 having a hexagonal lattice-shaped cell wall 21 and a plurality of hexagonal-shaped calls 22, and a catalyst cleaning layer 3 provided on the surface 211 of the cell wall 21 of the hexagonal-cell honeycomb carrier 2. The catalyst cleaning layer 3 comprises an HC adsorption layer 4 containing HC adsorption material, and a three-way catalyst layer 5 containing catalyst material. When the thickness of the HC adsorption layer 4 and the three-way catalyst layer 5 in the thinnest part 31 of the catalyst cleaning layer 3 are a1 and b1, respectively, and the thickness of the HC adsorption layer 4 and the three-way catalyst layer 5 in the thickest part 32 of the catalyst cleaning layer 3 are a2 and b2, respectively, (a1/b1) and (a2/b2) are both in a range of 1/20 to 5/1.
