To provide a new reaction method for carrying out the dehydration reaction or hydration reaction of an organic compound using supercritical water or subcritical water containing carbon dioxide as a reaction medium.
The invention relates to a non-catalytic reaction method of an organic compound characterized by the selective acid-catalyzed dehydration reaction or hydration reaction of the organic compound without adding a strong acid such as sulfuric acid or hydrochloric acid by using supercritical water or subcritical water mixed with a large excess of carbon dioxide as the reaction medium. The acid-catalyzing effect of the supercritical water or subcritical water can be remarkably improved by the reaction method and, for example, the yield is as high as 60% in the case of the reaction to form cyclohexene by the dehydration of cyclohexanol.
