Abstract:

To allow a high carbon steel wire to wire drawing without damaging its toughness, and to obtain a PC steel twisted wire whose tensile strength is increased compared with the conventional one by twisting the steel wires obtained by the wire drawing.

A high carbon steel wire rod containing 0.8 to 1.30 wt.% C is subjected to patenting treatment, and is thereafter wire-drawn using a plurality of dies. The wire drawing is performed under the conditions where the total reduction of area is 70 to 90%, the reduction of area by each die is 10 to 30%, and a wire drawing rate is 20 to 500 m/min, and is also performed in such a manner that the surface temperature of the wire rod 8 is controlled to ≤145°C till it reaches a wire drawing dram 5 in a wire drawing machine arranged per die from the outlet of the die 3, so as to produce the high carbon steel wire.
