This method for high concentration culture of a propionic acid bacterium comprises using a medium consisting of a whey powder as a main component and/or a medium consisting of a whey protein incorporated with a mineral and a monosaccharide as a main component. Also, it is preferable that as the whey power, a protease-treated material thereof is used at least as a part and as the whey protein, a protease-treated material of a whey protein concentrate and/or a separated whey protein material, is used at least as a part. Also, as the mineral and the monosaccharide, a lactase-treated material of a milk serum mineral is preferably used at least as a part. Further, as the monosaccharide, glucose and/or a lactase-treated material of lactose are preferably used at least as a part.
