An HDTV video is reproduced from the basic video data of an SDTV video stored in a medium and extended video data obtained from a network. Alternatively, the HDTV video is reproduced from the basic video data of the SDTV video received from broadcasting and the extended video data obtained from the network. Access to a data server in which the extended video data are stored is made possible by being supplied with link information recorded in the medium or product information included in the medium. Alternatively, the access is made possible by making a contract with a broadcasting agent or a communication carrier. Thus, it is possible to selectively provide an extended service only to a user having a legal right.
