PURPOSE: To manufacture a sintered magnetic body having a high density and excellent wear resistance by a procedure in which the surface of a magnetic metal material fine granule is coated with a metal oxide magnetic material with a spinel composition, heat-treated, and then sintered under a hydrostatic pressure.
CONSTITUTION: A magnetic metal material, e.g., permalloy, carbonyl iron, sendust, etc., is pulverized into powder of a grain size of 1W10μ, and then the surfaces of the fine magnetic metal material are coated with a metal oxide magnetic material with a spenel composition of the formula M-FeXO4 (M is Ni, Mn, Zn, or Fe, and X is ≤2). Then, the metal material so treated is heat-treated at 400W500°C in a reductive atmosphere, molded into a desired shape, and then sintered at 1,100W 1,280°C and under a vacuum of 1W10-3 Torr, followed by a high-temperature and high-pressure sintering under a hydrostatic pressure. Thereby, a sintered magnetic body having a high density corresponding to 90% or more of theoretical density and of excellent wear resistance can be manufactured.
