Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain high draft of 90% or more in one pass over the total length from the front end to the tail and of a rolled material using a normal rolling mill, and also to secure mass-production capability and simplify the equipment and the control.
SOLUTION: In a method of rolling a rolled material M using a rolling mill equipped with a work roll 1 and a backup roll 2 to be brought into contact with the outer periphery of the work roll 1, the work roll 1 is moved by a specified distance δ on the entry side of the rolling mill along the outer periphery of the backup roll 2. Then, the front end of the advancing rolled material M is brought into contact with the outer periphery of the work roll 1, and then the work roll 1 is returned to its original position along the outer periphery of the backup roll 2 so as to catch the front end of the material M while the rolled material M is pressed by the work roll 1 whose rotation is controlled. Thereafter, the rotation control of the work roll 1 is cancelled, and the rolled material M is rolled.
