Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high durability joint between ceramic articles, particularly, between beta-silicon carbide (β-SiC) articles, and method for producing and using the same.SOLUTION: The joint between the first article 101 and the second article 102 respectively containing ceramic polymorphs contains a matrix 103 including the ceramic polymorphs and the ceramic polymorphs, and contains a plurality of inclusions 104 distributed over the whole of the matrix and seal layers 105 arranged on the first article 101, the second article 102 and the matrix 103, respectively. Each seal layer 105 contains a ceramic polymorph, is applied under the utilization of chemical vapor infiltration (CVI), silicon and a carbon-containing reaction gas in a carrier gas are applied to the first 101 and second articles 102 and the matrix 103, and the same is subjected to infiltration (region 106) into the matrix 103 to improve the strength and durability of the joint.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1A
