To provide a method for subjecting the surface of a metallic material having a hydrogen-storing function to nanometer-order microfabrication in a short time and at low cost, and a simple method for manufacturing a high-efficiency hydrogen-storing metallic material.
In the invented method for manufacturing the high-efficiency hydrogen-storing metallic material, the surface of the metallic material having the hydrogen-storing function is irradiated with femtosecond laser whereby a microperiodic structure is formed on the surface of the metallic material having the hydrogen-storing function. A large volume of hydrogen can be efficiently stored by the formation of the microperiodic structure on the surface of the metallic material having the hydrogen-storing function.
