Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide an RF amplifier provided with a high efficiency operation mode for which drain efficiency is improved by generating the RF voltage of the several multiple of a DC voltage even in the case that a DC supply voltage is low. CONSTITUTION: An input network 22 is connected to the input terminal of an active device 34 using an FET Q1 , an output network 24 is connected to an output terminal, DC power supply 36 is connected through a switching means to the output network 24 and the input network 22 is provided with a signal sensor for sensing RF input and opening and closing the switching means. The output network 24 indicates low impedance for fundamental waves and indicates high impedance especially for second higher harmonics. Thus, the high efficiency power amplifier 20 for turning off the switching means when RF signal input is absent, improving the drain efficiency, selecting input terminal bias so as to turn quiescent current to a value closer to the maximum output current and generating the RF voltage of the several multiple of the DC voltage is obtained.
