Abstract:

To largely reduce switching loss in a circuit converting an electrical energy supplied from a power source into a prescribed power by switching.

The winding of a saturable magnetic substance and a switch are connected in series, and then connected in series with a circuit to be switched. An inrush current is reduced by a winding inductance at switch-on, the current is raised from a micro-current, and the operating point of the magnetic substance is made to reach up to a saturation region. The operating point of the magnetic substance is used in the saturation region and kept in a low impedance in the case of the on steady state of the switch. A voltage between terminals is raised from the micro-voltage by the effect of a capacitor connected for causing a slow change of the voltage between the terminals for a switching circuit and the switching loss is reduced at switch-off. The saturable magnetic substance is reversely magnetized prior to the next switching-on, and the operating point is moved in a non-saturation region.
