Abstract:
PURPOSE:To provide a high-molecular weight acrylonitrile polymer excellent in heat resistance in air and suitable for the production of a high-tenacity fiber or film and a process for producing the same. CONSTITUTION:A high-molecular weight acrylonitrile polymer having an acrylonitrile content of 80wt.% or above and a weight-average molecular weight of 30000 or above and such excellent heat resistance that it does not discolor even when heated for 10min at 180 deg.C in air. This polymer can be produced by performing the polymerization in the presence of a chain transfer agent of a chain transfer constant of 0.1 or above and washing the formed polymer with hot water at 90 deg.C or above in a process for producing a high-molecular weight acrylonitrile comprising polymerizing monomers in a mixture of water with an organic solvent which is water-soluble and can dissolve the formed polymer.
