PURPOSE: To provide pharmaceutical compositions obtd. by isolating and purifying N-acetylheparosan from a specified culture medium and deacetylating partially it and sulphating it and being useful as a hemocoagulation inhibitor.
CONSTITUTION: (A) N-acetylheparosan of formula I is isolated from a culture medium of Escherichia coli (K5) strain and it is purified and (B) this N- acetylheparosan is partially deacetylated and then, (C) it is partially or completely N-sulphated to obtain N,0-sulphated heparosans having a repeating disaccharide structure of formula II (E is an acetyl group in 0-80% disaccharide units of the N,0-sulphated heparosans and in the remaining disaccharide units, a sulphate group and optionally H; and G is H and a sulphate group) and the degree of sulphation represented by the ratio of sulphate/carboxyl of pref. 1.5-3 and consisting of a chain (a mixture) with a mol.wt. of 1.5-104-4×106D and the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof.
