To obtain a high molecular weight sericin aqueous solution excellent in homogeneity which inhibits colloidal gel formation and coagulation settling by improving the solubility of high molecular weight sericin with the use of a surface active agent other than an anionic surface active agent.
The high molecular weight sericin aqueous solution includes sericin having a weight-average molecular weight of not less than 30,000 and a specific nonionic surface active agent, cationic surface active agent or ampholytic surface active agent. The specific surface active agents include, for example, a polyoxyethylene sorbitan fatty acid ester, a sorbitan fatty acid ester, polyoxyethylene lauryl ether, a polyoxyethylene glyceryl ether fatty acid ester, a sugar fatty acid ester, polyoxyethylene polyoxypropylene glycol, lauric acid amidobutyl guanidium salt, lauryldimethylaminoacetic acid betaine, and laurylic acid amidopropyl betaine.
