Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a nonpyrogenic and noninflammatory high molecular weight sodium hyaluronate composition. SOLUTION: This high molecular weight sodium hyaluronate composition contains about 88-92wt.% sodium hyaluronate and 8-12wt.% water, has nonpyrogenic and noninflammatory activities and contains no protein derived from animals. The sodium hyaluronate is produced by Streptococcus zooepidemicus, has at least 3.5m<3> /kg intrinsic viscosity, a ratio of gluclonic acid/N-acetylglucosamine = 1/1, about 4-6% sodium ion and about 155-165 specific angle of rotation measured at 436nm wavelength and contains <0.01wt.% protein, <0.001wt.% sulfate, <0.02wt.% neutral sugar, <0.05ng/ml endotoxin, <2mg/g iron and <0.2mg/g copper.
