PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To readily obtain polymeric rheological additives easy in dispersion and handling by using, as the component, a reaction product of an unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer, an ethylenically unsaturated monomer and an hydrophobic substance which are specified.
SOLUTION: Desired compositions comprise a reaction product obtained by reacting (a) about 15-80 wt.% one or more 3-8C α,β-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid monomers; (b) about 15-85 wt.% one or more copolymerizable vinyl non-ionic ethylenically unsaturated monomer; and (c) about 0.5-25 wt.% one or more aralyl substituted phenolic hydrophobic substance. Aqueous compositions of these reaction products are used in compositions to be applied to fabrics such as latex inks and adhesives, printing inks such as high quality inks to be used for art objects, latex sealants and caulking agents, and matte coatings and high luster coatings or the like.
