To improve starting performance by improving rising characteristics during start-up and raising the fuel pressure in a short period of time in a high-pressure fuel pump.
Fuel, discharged from a feed pump 28, is passed through a first passage 30 and sent to a high-pressure fuel pump 10. Fuel of which the pressure has been increased by the high pressure fuel pump 10 is then supplied to a delivery pipe 32 through a second passage 31. The intake side of an electromagnetic driving type sub pump 38 is communicated to the first passage 30 via a first bypass passage 52, and the discharge side of the sub pump 38 is communicated to the second passage 31 via a second bypass passage 53. The sub pump 38 is driven only at the start-up of an internal combustion engine, such that the fuel pressure in the delivery pipe 32 is raised quickly.
