PURPOSE: To permit a captioned lamp to stably operate for a long period of time while reducing starting voltage by providing a heat sensitive element in an air tight vessel, charging the vessel with mixed gas of helium-argon-hydrogen or helium-hydrogen at specified pressure, and further providing in an outer tube a starting lamp to which a specified getter material is deposited.
CONSTITUTION: A high pressure vapor electric discharge lamp is constructed such that a luminous lamp 1 is held on the central part of an outer tube 17, and a starter lamp 5 is assembled into the outer tube 17. The starter lamp 5 is provided with an electrode contact 15 on the tip of a heat sensitive element 14, whose element 14 is made from a bimetal plate and is welded to an internal lead wire 13 provided standing on a stem 12 of an air tight vessel 11 made from glass. The vessel 11 is charged with mixed gas of helium-argon-water or helium- hydrogen at pressure ranging from 35 to 70Torr and at 20°C, and further a getter material 16 selected from a mixed sintered material of zirconium, titanium, barium, barium-alminium alloy, zirconium-alminium alloy, and zirconium-nickel is deposited on the inside surface of the vessel 11. It is possible in such a way to stably operate a captioned discharge lamp for a long periof of time while reducing the starting voltage.
