To provide a high purity metal such as magnesium by distillation-refining of a raw metal, and to provide a method and an apparatus for refining the high purity metal exhibiting a high yield and efficiency at a low cost.
The refining device is provided in which a raw metal heating unit having a raw metal crucible 1, a condensing unit having a plurality of gas passing plates 5 for condensation, a solidifying unit having a solidifying crucible 2, and a collecting and solidifying unit having a plurality of gas passing plates 7 for collection and solidification are connected to each other in the longitudinal direction. The raw metal of preferably ≥3 N is charged in the raw metal crucible 1, the temperature is controlled by heating the raw metal crucible 1 and the gas passing plates 5 for condensation in a high vacuum atmosphere of preferably ≤13 Pa (10-1 Torr), and the metal is vaporized with the raw metal heating unit. Next, part of the metal vapor is condensed with the condensing unit, and the condensed solution is returned to the raw metal crucible 1. The metal of high purity is repeatedly solidified and refined by the solidifying unit. The solidified metal of high purity of ≥6 N can be obtained in which the total content of Cl, F and S is ≤0.1 ppm, and the total content of impurities is ≤1 ppm.
