PURPOSE: To eliminate the need for the position adjustment of plural complicated and very small image pickup elements whose optical system is simple and to obtain a picture with higher resolution than the resolution of an image pickup means.
CONSTITUTION: The image pickup device 1 uses actuators 9a, 9b to move minutely an object 62 and uses a CCD 18 to pick up the image. A memory selector switch 23 is switched under the control of a timing control circuit 30, an original image is stored in a frame memory 24, and a picture moved minutely respectively is stored in other frame memories 25-27. The memories 24, 25 are alternately read in the case of an even number scanning line and the memories 26, 27 are alternately read in the case of an odd number scanning line to form one pattern. Since picture signals at plural positions of an object are synthesized, a part to be missing substantially is interpolated and a monitor 8 displays an object image with higher resolution than that of a CCD 18.
