Abstract:

PURPOSE: To enable a beautiful pattern to be transferred onto a two-piece can at high speed, by fitting the two-piece can over a heated mandrel to heat the can, bringing the can into contact the adhesive layer side of a transfer material, melting the adhesive layer, and welding a transfer layer onto the can.

CONSTITUTION: A mandrel 2 supported rotatably is heated, and a two-piece can 1 is fitted over the mandrel 2. Heat of the mandrel 2 is transmitted to the can 1, whereby the surface of the can is heated to a temperature sufficiently high for melting of an adhesive layer of a transfer material 3. The can 1 is brought into contact with the transfer material 3, which is tensioned so that the surface of the can 1 and the adhesive layer of the transfer material 3 make close contact with each other. The adhesive layer is melted by the heat from the can 1 to weld the transfer layer to the can 1, whereby the transfer layer is transferred onto the can 1. Thus, the heated can 1 is pressed against the adhesive layer side of the transfer material 3, the adhesive layer is speedily melted and softened to weld the transfer layer to the can 1, and the base sheet side of the transfer material 3 is not heated. Therefore, releasability of the transfer layer is extremely favorable, and high-speed transferring can be achieved.
