Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a surgical wrench having a contour which can approach a limited space or gap being effective for the installation of an implant for backbone fixation. CONSTITUTION: This high speed wrench 100 for surgical use has a thin contour, and is equipped with a holding means which holds a part to be installed by a fitting having a screw. This thin contour is achieved by a socket 40 which is directly formed in a torque transmitting gear 42. The head of the fitting having the screw is directly accepted in the socket, and other apparatus or an adapter, etc., which may increase the contour, are not required. The holding means includes two extension arms 32, 34, and the arms are terminated with a spherical member which is biasly engaged with a hole of the part to be installed. Thus, the fitting having the screw is accepted in the socket 40 of the wrench 100 together with the part being held, and a surgeon can start and operate without using his own fingers or other utensil.
