Title:
HIGH STRENGTH ALUMINUM-BASE ALLOY
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH07238336
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a high strength Al-base alloy excellent in mechanical properties by preparing an Al alloy containing specific percentages of Mn, Co, rare earth elements, etc., and having quasi-crystals in a structure.

CONSTITUTION: A molten alloy having a composition represented by the formula AlbalQaMbXc [where Q is Mn and/or Cr, M is one or more elements among Co, Ni, and Cu, X is one or more rare earth elements including Y or misch metal, and the symbols (a), (b), (c) stand for, by atom, 1-7%, 0.5-5%, and >0-5%, respectively, and, preferably, 3%≤(a+b+c)≤7% is satisfied] is formed into foil by means of liquid quenching equipment by chill block melt spinning, by which an aluminum-base alloy containing 20-70vol.% quasi-crystals in a structure is prepared. Further, the quasi-crystals are of icosahedron phase or regular decagonal phase or crystal phase approximating to the above phases, and further, preferred average particle size and about 10-1000nm. By this method, the aluminum-base alloy excellent in heat resistance and hardness and strength at room temp. and high temp. and having high specific strength can be obtained.
