PURPOSE: To obtain the title compsn. which is biodegradable and has a high dynamic Young's modulus by adding a cellulose deriv. to a culture medium for producing a microbial cellulose and culturing a microorganism capable of producing cellulose in the medium.
CONSTITUTION: A cellulose deriv. (e.g. hydroxyethylcellulose with an average mol.wt. of 10,000 or higher) pref. in an amt. of 0.1-10wt.% is added to a culture medium for producing a microbial cellulose, and in the medium is cultured a microorganism which can produce the microbial cellulose (e.g. Acetobacter pastorianus ATCC 10245 strain). After a high-strength microbial cellulose composite comprising the microbial cellulose and the cellulose deriv. is accumulated in the medium, the composite is harvested. The composite is useful as a material for producing a biodegradable plastic, an acoustic vibration plate, etc.
