To provide a high temperature air heater highly durable in a high temperature gas atmosphere in an incinerator and in a highly corrosive gas atmosphere according to circumstances and in particular, susceptible of less thermal deformation in a high temperature atmosphere, in which combustion residue such as ash content is made into a molten slug.
A heat exchanger tube 4 comprises a metallic heat exchanger inner tube 1, and a metallic heat exchanger outer tube 2 covering the inner tube 1 and provided with a gap between it and the inner tube 1, so that an air being heated is heated by a high temperature gas while passing through the gap between the inner tube 1 and the outer tube 2. A protective tube 5 of refractory material covering the outer tube 2 and sealed at its tip end is provided coaxially of the outer tube 2 with a gap between it and the outer tube 2 to be rectangular in cross section. A plurality of the heat exchanger tubes 4 covered with the protective tubes 5 of a refractory material are secured and installed in surface contact condition with the adjacent heat exchanger tubes 4 via one sides of the rectangular cross sections of the protective tubes 5.
