PURPOSE: To produce a high-temperature desulfurizing agent which can be inexpensively prepared in an industrial scale by mixing an iron desulfurizing substance with a pitch binder as they are heated over the softening point of the pitch, cooling and crushing into desired forms, then heating them in an inactive atmosphere.
CONSTITUTION: As a desulfurizing material, is used pig iron dust from blast furnaces, and coal or petroleum pitch is used as a binder for increasing the strength of the formed product and heated together with the dust in an amount of 15wt.% based at 120°C in an air atmosphere and mixed in a kneader. After being cooled, the mixture is crushed and formed into cylinders and heated at 1000°C in an N2 atmosphere to give the high-temperature desulfurizing agent, inexpensively in an industrial scale, which can remove sulfur compounds such as hydrogen sulfide from coal gasification gas or coke oven gas obtained in coal dry distillation and coal partial combustion gas under the conditions of 200 to 700°C.
