PURPOSE: To provide fuel cell performance by which temperature distribution of the whole cells, particularly, in a cell surface direction can be uniformized further and the occurrence of thermal stress can be restrained and current distribution can be uniformized further and cell output can be stabilized and fuel cell efficiency can be heightened and which is excellent in high output.
CONSTITUTION: In a fuel cell housing multistage cells laminated upon each other in a polygonal pillar shape so as to be fitted in a bottomed and covered cylindrical manifold 22 container, the multistage cells 21 are formed in an even number polygonal pillar of not less than a hexagonal pillar, and have a power generating raw material gas passage and a cooling medium passage or a through-passage. This fuel cell current collecting body has a passage to introduce power generating fuel gas supplied to the electrode side and/or power generating oxidating agent gas supplied to the electrode side and a passage or a through-passage to introduce at least a single kind of cooling mediums. Thereby, selection width of power generating raw material gas or gas except that or the cooling medium such as refrigerant is widened, and the supply place can be set properly, and when raw material gas is used as the cooling medium, it is preheated by heat exchange, and can be used as power generating gas.
