Abstract:

PURPOSE: To prevent part of a master pattern from being hidden due to simultaneous display of a slave pattern by providing a master pattern display means displaying three sides surrounding a pattern to be displayed onto three sides surrounding a display screen overlappingly and a slave pattern display means displaying ≤3 patterns whose aspect ratio is 4:3 onto a blanking area adjacent to the master pattern to the receiver.

CONSTITUTION: An NTSC signal 1 enters four tuners 2, 3, 4 and 5, and the signal entering the tuner 2 is given to a pattern display means 6, in which the signal is displayed on a screen whose aspect ratio is 16:9 so that the original aspect ratio of 4: 3 of the signal is not changed and a 4:3 pattern signal 7 and a blanking area signal 8 are generated. The signal entering the tuners 3, 4 and 5 is subjected to 1/9 compression by a compression means 9, and the resulting signal is synthesized with the blanking area signal 8 by a synthesis means 10.
