Title:
HIGH VOLTAGE DISCHARGE LAMP
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH05109386
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE: To facilitate manufacturing, prevent undesirable heat transmission to its periphery, and limit rejected products by causing a cooling means to be formed through dips in the wall of a discharge housing placed between electrodes and to be extended over the whole periphery. CONSTITUTION: A high pressure discharge lamp is equipped with a long discharge housing 1 which is sealed through a method allowing no vacuum lead, is translucent, has no gas leak, and has a sintered polycrystalline alumina wall 2. The housing 1 is equipped with ionizable filling matter and electrodes 5, 6 at its end portions 5, 6, and is connected to outside via current feeding conductors 7, 8. A cooling means 10 is formed of dips 11 forming substantially regular embossing 12 on the outside of the housing 1 wall 2, and is extended over the whole periphery of the whole wall 2. Thereby, an external surface area is enlarged so that high degree heat transmission is achieved, and simultaneously the temperature distribution of the housing 1 becomes uniform so that the danger of mechanical distortion can be prevented.
