Title:
HIGH WEAR RESISTANT METAL MATRIX COMPOSITE AND ITS PRODUCTION
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH05320788
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a composite improved in wear resistance, particularly, in the range of high temps. comparted to that of the conventional one, and to provide its manufacturing method.

CONSTITUTION: The objective metal matrix composite is a one in which respective reinforcing fibers 10 are coated with intermetallic compounds 34 and are connected with each other by the intermetallic compounds 34. The objective manufacturing method is a one for a metal matrix composite characterized by coating reinforcing fibers with a metal which is brought into reaction with a matrix metal and forms intermetallic compounds, forming the assembly of the coated reinforcing fibers into a prescribed shape to form a fiber preformed body and thereafter infiltrating the molten metal of the matrix metal into the fiber formed body by pressurizing to simultaneously attain the manufacture of the composite and the formation of the intermetallic compounds.
