To obtain the subject composition, being a liquid state at an ambient temperature in a high concentration without using a solubilizing agent or a viscosity adjusting agent and easily handle by using a specific secondary alcohol derivative and water in a prescribed ratio.
This highly concentrated liquid state secondary alcohol ethoxysulfate salt composition contains 35-60wt.% higher secondary alcohol ethoxysulfate salt of formula I [R1, R2 are each a 1-15C alkyl; (n)=1-15; M is an alkali metal atom] and 65-40wt.% water. The higher secondary alcohol ethoxysulfate salt of the formula I is obtained by reacting a higher secondary alcohol ethoxylate of formula II with chlorosulfonic acid or anhydrous sulfuric acid for sulfurizing and then neutralizing the obtained sulfate with an alkali metal compound. As the alkali metal compound, an alkali metal hydroxide, especially sodium hydroxide is preferable. The composition does not damage various characteristics required for a detergent composition or a cosmetic material.
