Title:
HIGHLY ELECTRICALLY CONDUCTIVE CARBON BLACK AND ITS PRODUCTION
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH05117544
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the subject product having ultrahigh electric conductivity and high apparent specific gravity by heating a mixture of carbon black with an alkali hydroxide and water in an inert gas atmosphere, dehydrating the mixture and then subjecting the dehydrated mixture to activating treatment under specific conditions.

CONSTITUTION: The objective substance is obtained by initially heating a mixture composed of carbon black (preferably furnace black of electrically conductive grade), an alkali hydroxide (preferably KOH) and water in an inert gas atmosphere, dehydrating the mixture and further heat-treating the mixture at a temperature wherein activation can be carried out at preferably 500-900°C. In the substance, the carbon black is activated with the alkali hydroxide. The mixing ratio of the carbon black to the alkali hydroxide preferably (1:3) to (1:8). The water is used in an amount of preferably 1-8 times based on the alkali hydroxide on the weight basis.
