Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the subject particles, having a high light transmittance and refractive index and useful as a filler for molding compounds for sealing optical function devices by selecting the subject particles having a prescribed value or above of linear transmittance measured according to a specific method for measuring the linear transmittance.

CONSTITUTION: The subject particles having ≥70% linear transmittance within a wavelength region of 900-600nm measured according to the following method (A) for measuring the linear transmittance. (A) A bisphenol type epoxy resin expressed by formula I (n is 0-10) or novolak type epoxy resin expressed by formula II is mixed with phenyl glycidyl ether to prepare a solution capable of providing a difference in refractive index from that of silica-titania glass particles within ±0.002. The resultant solution is then mixed with silica-titania glass particles having 5-30μ average particle diameter at 1:1 weight ratio and the linear transmittance of the obtained mixture is measured at 1mm optical path.
