PURPOSE: To obtain an expression vector useful for producing a recombinant protein, having a DNA sequence cording for HIV p17 fused in a frame of a controlling element which functions in E. coli, or a DNA sequence coding for a p17 derivative, and suitable for a vaccine.
CONSTITUTION: This expression vector is prepared by fusing a DNA sequence coding for p17 or an immunologically equivalent derivative in a frame of a controlling element functioning in E. coli or an yeast. The p17-cording sequence is prepared from HIV or an HIV-infected cell by isolating virus mRNA and preparing cDNA through reverse transcription. The recombinant HIV p17 can be obtained by culturing an organism or a cell which has been transformed with the above expression vector, and isolating and harvesting the recombinant HIV p17.
