Abstract:
PURPOSE: To prevent the engaging section of a workpiece to be polished in the center section of structural angle from enlarging by forming the structural angle, which constituted a holder for the workpiece to be polished together with a packing material, out of a plurality of pieces combined and forming a space for absorbing expansion between the pieces.
CONSTITUTION: The surface of a workpiece to be polished, which is comprises glass and the like used for flat display is polished by a polishing machine. That is, the workpiece is pressed by a polishing pad and is relatively rotated with polishing liquid intervening between the workpiece and the pad. A holder for holding the workpiece comprises a structural angle 1 in which a workpiece engaging hole 10 opens and a packing material with fixed elasticity stuck together. In this case, the structural angle 1 comprises a plurality of pieces 1a and 1b combined. Each of pieces 1a and 1b form opening section 10 in which the rectangle-like workpiece is engaged at the center section of the structural angle 1 and form a space 6 between them. This space absorbs the expansion of the pieces 1a and 1b due to the absorption of polishing liquid.
