Title:
HOLLOW CARBON ELECTRODE BAR
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS579594
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To protect workers from danger of burn or damage to eyes due to ultraviolet rays by sealing an end of a hollow carbon electrode bar and thereby preventing backward flow of arc flame.

CONSTITUTION: A hollow molded carbon is obtained by putting kneaded carbon in a molding machine. This is then fired and both ends of the fired electrode are cut to specified length. Various sealing materials are filled in an end of the cut electrode and dried. A metallic film is applied on the surface of the electrode bar made of hollow carbon sealed at an end. It is then dried to obtain a product. When, for instance, a carbonic filler obtained by mixing various organic or inorganic resin bonding agent with the carbon powder is used as a sealing material, a product having a continuous copper plated film throughout the sealed part 3 at one end and the surface of outer circumference can be obtained.
