Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hollow cathode which is excellent in durability and can reduce the risk of failure of the heater.SOLUTION: In a vicinity 1 of an electron emitting portion of the hollow cathode, a cylindrical cathode tube 10, a thermionic emitter 2 provided inside the thermionic emitter 2, a radiant heater 3 provided outside the cathode tube 10, a heat shield 5 provided outside the radiant heater 3 for reducing heat dissipation, and a hollow-cylindrical keeper electrode 6 as a whole enveloping the hollow cathode are included. A space is provided between the radiant heater 3 and the cathode tube 10. A space is also provided between the radiant heater 3 and the heat shield 5. Furthermore, in order to maintain a state of separation between the cathode tube 10 and the radiant heater 3 and between the radiant heater 3 and the heat shield 5, support members 11a, 11b, 11c and 11d having a T-shaped cross section are provided.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
