To provide a hollow lightweight component which is appropriate for transmission of a high mechanical load.
A hollow lightweight component is composed of at least one dish-like housing member 1 made of a high strength material, a ribbed support structure 2 made of a plastic material, in particular, a thermo-plastic material, and at least one planar 4 or a dish-like covering member made of a high strength material different from the plastic material. The support structure 2 is made into close contact with the interior of the housing member 1, and in particular, it is connected to the housing member 1. The planar covering member 4 or the dish-like covering member covers over a substantial part of a space defined between the housing member 1 and the support structure 2, and is connected to at least a part of the boundary part 10 of the housing member 1 within its boundary 10.
