Abstract:
PURPOSE: To decrease the splitting angle and splitting interval between P- polarized light and S-polarized light as to the polarization beam splitter which uses a hologram.
CONSTITUTION: The hologram 10 which has interference fringes recorded in a plate type transparent recording material with thickness by refractive index modulation is provided as the polarization beam splitter which split the luminous flux, consisting of mixed P-polarized and S-polarized light components being two orthogonal polarized light component into the P-polarized light component and S-polarized light component. An optical element 12 which bends an optical path is provided at the position where one or both of the polarized components exit so that the angle between the transmitted component of the hologram 10 and a primary diffracted component or the interval between both the components is decreased.
