Title:
HONEYBEE NOT STINGING AND ITS PRODUCTION
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH09275851
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To obtain a safe honeybee having no danger of stinging a beekeeper, useful as a pollen mediating insect for crops not only for a beekeeping industry but also for an ordinary farmer, having two kinds of dispersed stings, stylets and lancets and dispersed valves.

This honeybee has characteristics in which two kinds of stings of stylets lancets and valves are dispersed. The honeybee is obtained by irradiating a honeybee in a developmental stage with γ rays. Preferably a full grown larva in a pupation period 8-10 days after egg laying is irradiated with γ-rays comprising 60Co (44.4TBq, 1,200 curie) as a heat source in a dose of 20-50 Gray. The colony of the honeybee not stinging is preferably produced by irradiating a honeybee colony having a great number of eggs, larvae and chrysalises with 20-50 Gray of γ-rays, transferring a comb housing the eggs, the larvae and the chrysalises to a new beekeeping box on 11-13 days after the irradiation and further laying the beekeeping box in a chamber to make the chrysalises emerge.
