Abstract:

To provide a honeycomb carrier used for supporting a cleaning catalyst for cleaning an exhaust gas or the like, especially an NOx-containing exhaust gas of a car, excellent in heat resistance, thermal shock resistance, mechanical strength and thermal decomposition resistance, having large corrosion resistance against the catalyst and stably usable over a long period of time, and its manufacturing method.

The material of the honeycomb carrier for the exhaust gas cleaning catalyst comprises an aluminum magnesium titanate sintered body obtained by baking a molded body formed from the following raw material mixture at 1,000-1,700°C. The raw material mixture contains 100 pts. mass of a mixture, which contains an Mg-containing compound, an Al-containing compound and a Ti-containing compound in the same metal component ratio as the metal component ratio in aluminum magnesium titanate represented by the composition formula: MgxAl2(1+x)TiO5(0yK1-y)AlSi3O8(0≤y≤1).
