To provide a honeycomb filter that has an excellent collection capability for collecting particulate matter contained in exhaust gas as well as an excellent purification capability for purifying harmful component contained in exhaust gas.SOLUTION: The honeycomb filter comprises a honeycomb structure 4 having a porous partition wall 1, and a plugging member 5, and in which the honeycomb structure 4 further has a platinum group element-containing catalyst layer 14 and a collection layer 15, and the platinum group element-containing catalyst layer 14 is disposed at least on the entire surface of the inner surface side of the partition wall 1 surrounding either an inflow cell 2a or an outflow cell 2b and exists only on the surface side of the partition wall 1 in the thickness direction of the partition wall 1, and the collection layer 15 is disposed on a second surface side located on the opposite side of the first surface of the partition wall 1 on which the platinum group element-containing catalyst layer 14 is disposed and the collection layer 15 is disposed at least in the range from the outflow end surface 12 and up to 50% of the total length of the honeycomb structure 4 and is not disposed in the range from the inflow end surface 11 and up to at least 40% of the total length.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
