Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a honeycomb structure in which the purification capability can effectively be improved.SOLUTION: The honeycomb structure 1 includes a plurality of cell walls 2, a plurality of cell holes 3 surrounded by the plurality of cell walls 2, and a catalyst layer covering the surface of the cell walls 2, and passes an exhaust gas exhausted from an internal combustion engine through the plurality of cell holes 3 for purification. In the plurality of cell walls 2, there are formed fine pores communicating the adjacent cell holes 3 each other as well as having the inner peripheral surface covered with the catalyst layer 5. In at least a portion of the honeycomb structure 1, there is formed a change portion 14 in which the formation density of a cell hole 3 varies as heading toward the outer side in the radial direction. In at least a portion of the plurality of cell holes 3 formed in the change portion 14, there is formed a protrusion portion 4 protruding toward the center side of the cell hole 3.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
