PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a honeycomb structure which is a catalyst carrier and functions as a heater by applying a voltage and can suppress deviation of a temperature distribution when a voltage is applied.SOLUTION: There is provided a honeycomb structure 100 which comprises: a cylindrical honeycomb structure part 4 having a porous partition wall 1 and an outer peripheral wall 3 for partitioning and forming a plurality of cells 2; and a pair of electrode parts 21 disposed at a side surface 5 of the honeycomb structure part 4, wherein the honeycomb structure part 4 has an electric resistivity of 1 to 200 Ωcm, each of the pair of electrode parts 21 is formed in a strip-shape extending in a direction of extension of the cells 2 of the honeycomb structure part 4, one of the electrode parts 21 in the pair of electrode parts 21 is disposed on the opposite side across the center of the honeycomb structure part 4 with respect to the other of the electrode parts 21 in the pair of electrode parts 21, the honeycomb structure part 4 is composed of a central area 6 and an outer peripheral area 7 and the electric resistivity of a material constituting the outer peripheral area 7 is lower than the electric resistivity of a material constituting the central area 6.
