Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a honeycomb structure which can be used as a catalyst carrier and functions as a heater by applying a voltage and is further excellent in thermal shock resistance.SOLUTION: There is provided a honeycomb structure 100 which comprises: a cylindrical honeycomb segment joined body 4 which has a plurality of honeycomb segments 6 and has a joint layer 7 for joining side surfaces of a plurality of honeycomb segments 6; and a pair of electrode parts 21 disposed at a side surface of the honeycomb segment joined body 4, wherein the honeycomb segments 6 have a volume resistivity of 1 to 200 Ωcm, a part of the joint layer 7 is formed of a joining material having conductivity, the joining layer 7 has a volume resistivity of 2 to 2000 Ωcm, each of the pair of electrode parts 21 is formed in a strip-like shape extending in a direction of extension of cells of the honeycomb segment joined body 4 and one of the pair of the electrode parts 21 is disposed on the opposite side across the center of the honeycomb segment joined body 4 with respect to the other of the pair of electrode parts 21.
