To hone a prepared hole into a worked hole having high straightness and roundness with high accuracy.
When the prepared hole bored in a workpiece is slightly honed by a tool in a floatable state in a horizontal plane, the workpiece is floated so that a radial grinding force applied to the tool is balanced, and an unbalanced load is prevented from being applied thereto, and thus the center of the worked hole is matched with the center of the tool. The workpiece is fixed in this state, and the tool is sent into the prepared hole to advance the honing. By this constitution, the workpiece is not floated following to a bend in receipt of a reaction force from the tool due to the bend of the prepared hole, and the center of the tool and that of the prepared hole are matched approximately, therefore, a large unbalanced load is not applied to the tool. Thus, the tool can hone the prepared hole into the worked hole having high straightness and roundness with high accuracy without being influenced by the bend.
