Abstract:

To reduce a friction resistance on an inner surface of a cylinder and improve a seizure resistance.

A honing method for machining crosshatched grooves in the inner surface of the cylinder by turning a honing head 5 provided with a grinding wheel 11 against the inner surface 3a of the cylinder 2, while moving the honing head 5 in an axial direction, includes steps of dividing the grinding wheel 11 of the honing head 5 into three, corresponding to an axial central part of the inner surface 3a of the cylinder 2, and an upper end part and a lower end part on both end sides thereof; pressing the grinding wheels 11b and 11c for the upper end part and lower end part harder against the inner surface 3a of the cylinder 2 than the grinding wheel 11a for the central part; thereby machining the grooves 9 in the crosshatches 8a of the central part of the inner surface 3a of the cylinder 2 shallower, and machining the grooves 10 in the crosshatches 8b of the upper end part and lower end part deeper than the grooves 9 in the crosshatches 8a of the central part.
