PURPOSE: To contrive the improvement of working efficiency, preciseness of a broaching cutter and safety, by a method wherein a cutting stroke and restoring stroke are made automatic and are enabled to carry out consecutively.

CONSTITUTION: A horizontal broaching machine carries out machining of a work by pulling a broaching cutter and restoring machining of the work through which the broaching cutter can be returned by interlocking a reciprocation device B of a tailstock carriage 5, an operating device 21 of the cutter, a cutter clamping device C and a cutter carrier D with each other. With this, a machining stroke and a restoring stroke can be performed automatically and consecutively. Working efficiency, therefore, machining accuracy and safety are improved.
