PURPOSE: To provide a horizontal continuous casting apparatus, in which the primary witness mark can be made to be shallow and the segregation of carbide at the straight line part of the witness mark is reduced and further, coarse eutectic carbide can be dispersed.

CONSTITUTION: This apparatus is composed of a feed tube 3 arranged to the horizontal state at the lower part of a tundish and a brake ring 2 inserted in the inlet of a mold 1 in order to connect with the water cooling mold 1. Then the inner diameter of the mold or the distance between the faced surfaces in the mold is substantially equal from a triple point T constituted with the mold 1, brake ring 2 and the molten steel 4 in the drawing direction and the angle θ forming the brake ring 2 with the inside surface of the mold 1 at the triple point T is 30-60° or 120-150°.
