Title:
HORIZONTAL CONTINUOUS CASTING DEVICE FOR MOLTEN METAL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3037555
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To assure a uniform molten metal flow in a pouring region of a mold by disposing a restriction within the outflow channel of a heat holding furnace and dimensioning the restriction in such a manner that the cross sectional area of a molten metal passage is made smaller than the cross sectional area of the mold.
CONSTITUTION: The side wall of the heat holding furnace 1 is provided with an outflow opening 2 for the molten metal in the heat holding furnace 1 in the end face wall. The outflow opening channel 2 is enclosed by a front surface plate 6 and a heat exchange frame 7 is mounted at the front surface plate 6. The heat exchange frame 7 is hermetically sealed and protected by a refractory material 12 even against the heat holding furnace 1 and against a flange 8 having a cooler 9. The restriction 3 consists of the refractory material and the molten metal passage 4 is disposed in the outflow channel 2. The size of the restriction 3 is so determined that the cross sectional area of the molten metal passage 4 is smaller than the cross sectional area of the mold 10. As a result, the casting temperature may be kept nearly constant and the quality of the continuously cast products is improved.
